LATIN AMERICAN ENCOUNTERS
CALL FOR PAPERS Issue 3, 2016
Latin American Encounters (LAE) invites interested individuals to submit written and visual contributions for its 2016 publication (Issue 3).
The journal's main purpose is to explore the formation of Latin American subjectivities in Canada and build the foundations for a systematic understanding of the social, economic, political and demographic context in which they become manifested. LAE provides an interdisciplinary space for groups and individuals who are interested in the production and dissemination of knowledge that questions hierarchical relations at the local, national and global levels, as well as their intersections.
LAE's editorial board is accepting original (previously unpublished) submissions that are accessible to a broad readership and can generate dialogue on issues that affect and shape the lives of Latin Americans in Canada. We accept submissions engaging in a broad range of fields including social, economic, cultural, environmental, educational, political, arts, social services and health issues as well as their intersections. Some possible topics for this issue include, but not limited to, the following:
We are particularly interested in contributions produced either in English or Spanish by those who define themselves and/or their work as Latin American in the Canadian context and who engage in new, critical and conceptual approaches. We accept autoethnographic (personal stories) as well as empirical approaches. Please note that each publication will also include one piece of work that is outside the journal's focus but that deals with Latin Americans/Latin America in the world.
There are several options for submission:
1. Articles/Essays containing between 2,500-8,000 words.
2. Photo-essays of approximately 1,000 words. Please include high-resolution photos. Authors must have full copyright access to the photos. By submitting their photos, authors grant LAE the right to publish and disseminate them.
3.Research/fieldwork Reports of approximately 1,000 words.
4. Book Reviews containing between 500-1000 words.
5. Artistic submissions (plays, poetry, artwork). Please include a brief introduction (300 words) with the submission.
All work will be reviewed by one member of the editorial board and 2 peers in a similar field. Authors can choose to have submissions undergo a process of scholarly peer-review. Please state clearly if you want your paper to be part of the peer-review process.
Please send your submissions no later than December 15, 2015 to:
